1936:  Publication by Doubleday Doran of a limited edition of The Mint
1936 Nov 18 J.S. Ross to Sir S. Gaselee Concerning forthcoming issue of a limited edition in the US, to protect copyright, and steps to be taken by the British Embassy in Washington to prevent piracy.
Presscuttings about the American limited edition of The Mint:
1936 Nov 29 New York Herald.
1936 Dec 6 Sunday Chronicle (Manchester)
1936 Dec 14 Evening Standard
1936 Dec 18 The Times, Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail, Morning Post, News Chronicle (the last includes a reprint of Henry Seidel Canby's article from the Saturday Review)
When a very small edition of The Mint was published in the United States, copies had to be deposited in the Library of Congress. An American reviewer, Henry Seidel Canby, went there to read the book and published an exclusive article about it in the Saturday Review of Literature. The contents of this were taken up by the American and British press.
1936 Dec 29 J.S. Ross to Sir S. Gaselee (carbon copy)
Thanks for all the action taken by the British Embassy in Washington, and presscuttings. "We hope that the sensation will soon blow itself out - till 1950."
1937 Jan 1 J.S. Ross to Sir S. Gaselee (carbon copy) Thanks for further letter with enclosures from the British Embassy in Washington.
