January 1935
Lawrence meets Alexander Korda and persuades him to abandon
plans for a film version of Revolt in the Desert.
February 1935
The press learn of Lawrence's impending retirement from the RAF.
Having accumulated some entitlement to leave, he
sets off from Bridlington on 25 February, five days
earlier than the press expect. He travels slowly by
bicycle to Clouds Hill, visiting friends on the way.
March 1935
Lawrence arrives at Clouds Hill to find it besieged by
journalists and photographers. He leaves immediately
and goes into hiding in London, calling himself Mr
T. E. Smith. On 15 March he returns home, to find
that the cottage is still being watched by
cameramen. He contacts various press chiefs and
persuades then to call off their reporters.
April 1935
Lawrence returns to Clouds Hill and occupies himself with
further improvements.
May 1935
On 13 May Lawrence takes his motorbike to Bovington Post
Office to send a parcel of books to a friend and a
telegram to Henry Williamson. On his way back to
Clouds Hill he swerves to avoid two boy cyclists and
is thrown from his machine. He remains in coma for
six days and dies on 19 May. He is buried at St
Nicholas' Church in Moreton on 21 May.
